Pol Roger Champagne Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill - Vintage 1995

Image
Honey, mushrooms, brioche and perhaps a hint of buttered popcorn — complex with a hint of autumn. Fully mature. Acidity and bubbles fading, near it’s peak. Great Champagne,  Copyright — Per Kamperin Winemaker Notes: The Vintage Brut 1995 is rich, powerful and flavorsome with an expressive palate. In style and qualityis not unlike one of its illustrious predecessors, the 1985. It has an intense, radiant golden color with traces of warm amber. There is a persistent stream of very fine, regular sized bubbles that rise upwards to a delicate, full durable ‘cordon’ at the rim. Initially discreet, even closed, its nose combine an extreme delicacy with subtle complexity, skillfully combining some gentle, leafy aromas (straw, cut flowers) and equally understated dried fruit aromas (almonds, apricots) before blossoming into an abundance of competing aromas: fruity (fruit candy), lactic (beurrre noisette) and spicy (mille-fleurs honey, ginge...

1999 Louis Roederer Champagne Cristal Brut

Image
A wine of pure pleasure and a sophisticated gastronomic wine, Cristal is both powerful and delicate, combining subtlety and precision — Jean-Baptiste Lécaillon, Cellar Master This Champagne is a favorite of mine. Powerful with fine bubbles. Balanced, bready, apples, nuts and brioche, with a slight hint of earthy nuances, a bit reductive. Drink now IMO . Cristal - Vintage 1999 The House (Winemaker’s Notes) Our House’s most famous wine was created in 1876 to satisfy the demanding tastes of Tsar Alexander II. The emperor asked Louis Roederer to reserve the House’s best cuvée for him every year. He was particularly fond of the House’s wine. To distinguish this cuvée, this exceptional champagne came in a flat-bottomed, transparent lead-crystal bottle. The new brand was named after this precious material, which is particularly transparent and luminous. Produced uniquely during the best years, when the Chardonnay (around 40%) and Pinot noir (around 60%) grapes have at...

1996 Salon “Le Mesnil” Brut Blanc de Blancs Champagne

Image
This is one of my absolute favourite champagnes . Fresh and clean on the palate and made to age for many years. Aromas of fresh citrus and green apples and lots of chalky mineral notes. L ayers upon layers of concentrated sweet fruit with a generous mousse.  Will hold for many years, drink over the next 10 years? Copyright Per Kamperin (My collection.) Winemakers notes The 1996 Salon is a pale yellow color with a touch of green. It is clear and lively, with fine, persistent bubbles and a stunning bouquet. Initially, the nose offers hints of green apple, which soon develop into lemon and grapefruit combined with pear and kiwi notes. The wine is complex and refreshing on the palate, displaying a burst of minerality. This is a well-made, rich, powerful Champagne, all-encompassing yet subtle, with contained strength. According to Didier Depond, Salon should be served in a tulip-shaped glass instead of a traditional champagne flute. “Because of the richness and c...
