2015 Sommarovina Valtellina Superiore Sassella D.O.C.G

Image
This was a very nice Nebbiolo, light colored with intoxicating aromatics, and a surprising balmy and rich bouquet, concentrated fruit with hints of plum, licorice and perhaps also with slight nuances of violets. Silky ripe tannins with typical acidity. (Wine Spectator gave this wine 91 points for the vintage of 2009.) A great wine in summary… Producer Notes: Deep ruby red color with garnet shades. Fresh fragrance with hints of red fruits, hibiscus and rose supported by intense balsamic and spicy sensations. The taste is warm, persistent and elegant with a pleasant ending of licorice and almond, confirming it as a wine of character, austere, compact .

Mamete Prevostini - 2014 Corte di Cama Sforzato di Valtellina D.O.C.G.

Image
Mamete Prevostini - 2014 Corte di Cama Sforzato di Valtellina D.O.C.G. This bottle initially appeared a bit angular and tight on the nose, but it soon revealed it’s pure and delicate Nebbiolo character. This wine was full-bodied with a high level of alcohol (15.5%). While still young, it showed real ‘elegance’ and a balanced acidity with rather ripe tannins. We found cherries, licorice (or anise..), a spectrum of different spices, typical dried fruit with hints of both vanilla and raisins — and perhaps also hazelnuts? A beautiful wine that will be stunning after another 5+ years in the cellar…  More on Mamete Prevostini: https://medium.com/@perkamperin/two-great-wines-from-mamete-prevostini-226c4fd8ead0

Pasta alla Norcina

Image
Pasta alla norcina  is a typical recipe from Umbria; specifically the ancient town of Norcia, famous for its sausages and cured meats. There are actually two versions of pasta alla norcina. This one is made with Norcia sausage crumbled into a pan with oil and onion, fresh cream, truffle and pecorino. This is a very simple recipe with few ingredients  but so flavourful and creamy you’ll want to make it part of your regular pasta menu. Remove the casing from the sausages and crumble the meat filling. Peel and chop the onion finely. Bring a large pot of water to a boil for the pasta, add salt and bring to the boil again. Meanwhile, heat the oil in a large frying pan over a medium heat. Add the onion and cook until soft then add the crumbled sausage meat. Brown the sausage, while stirring to prevent it from sticking. Pour in the wine. Allow the alcohol to evaporate (while stirring). Lower the heat, cover, and finish cooking the sausage in its own juices for 10 minutes. Un...

The Rolex Explorer II...

Image
The Rolex Explorer II Reference 1655 nicknamed by collectors as the Steve McQueen or 'Freccione' by some Italian collectors because of the bright orange arrow-shaped 24-hour hand on the watch —the word 'Freccione' comes from the Italian word 'Freccia' which means "arrow"— was only produced by Rolex from 1971 through 1984. (This watch was produced in 1982.) Rolex Explorer II At the time of its launch, the watch was intended to be a 'tool' watch for cave explorers that after spending days in a cavern, couldn't tell if it was day or night outside. A problem that was easily solved by the 24-hour orange arrow-shaped hand that along with the 24-hour military time bezel, would help them identify day or night times with ease.
